What DO they know? Freedom of Information in the internet age

In the five years since the Freedom of Information Act came into force, we have seen a steady increase in the number of enquiries; as more information becomes available, the public finds more gaps and omissions to explore. An act that was drafted when electronic documents were structured and paper still ruled now has to consider email, twitter, facebook blogs and online databases. All too often, thoughts and opinions are being recorded without due consideration and once they are written-down they are fair game for an enquirer. We all need to remember how open and public our data is becoming and think of ways to manage it that is fair to the council and to the enquirer.
